Corporate & Personal Brand Headshots

What should I wear for my Headshot?

Attire & Colors

Pick an outfit that suits your brand. If you are ever in doubt, going conservative is your best bet. Some tips I’ve picked up is that V-necks give length to shorter necks, while tank tops may flatter toned arms. Usually long sleeves work better, but if you love your arms than you could rock a tank top. Again, if you’re still in doubt you could bring some layer options like a button up blouse or jacket for a few shots to see what you like best.

Your neckline is important. Fitted and tailored clothing works best. Please note that loose or baggy tops will make you look larger than you desire.

Solids are better than patterns. I will always say this no matter your industry. Multiple color solids are a great way to add some creative flare. If your complexion is light to fair, I would avoid pastels because they will wash your skin. Deep cool colors like purple and blues look good on every skin tone.

If you have darker hair that’s long you will want to wear something that’s not deep blue or black because your hair will disappear in your shirt. Last tip on colors is when we get older, our wrinkles will start to show with deeper colors we wear. So lighter tops may be more flattering if you want to steer away from highlighting wrinkles.

So… In a nutshell
Shirt – Nuetral, comfortable, and fitted clothing. No branding of any kind. You don’t want your headshot to have a big Nike swish in there.
Color – I’ve found that jewel tones work for the majority of skin tones. If you have a pale complexion, refrain from wearing pastels or white as these will just wash you out further.

The Face

Make Up –
No shimmery make up. If you look at your make up and it sparkles, don’t use it. Remember my light is bouncing off your face, those sparkles are like little mirrors that wash you out.

Facial Hair –
PLEASE shave! A neat clean shave really does make a difference. Full bodied hair is the dream for headshots. If you have flat thin hair, the goal is to make it look as full as possible. If you’re hair has its own zip code already, then just making sure you have product needed to keep it styled the way you’d like works perfectly. No tight ponytails. It’ll make your forehead look huge.

Be You.. For Real!

No random spray tans or drastic cosmetic changes 2 days before the session. It has a great possibility of not going the way you want and no one will recognize you your headshot.
